The Answer Depends on The Brand
As your brand grows, your packaging needs often become more complex. You may start wondering whether to bring bottle decoration in-house or partner with a third-party expert. While in-house control can sound appealing, outsourcing your bottle decoration to a company like Eastgate Group can offer significant advantages in cost, quality, and scalability.
This article explains when and why it makes sense to use a third-party bottle decorator—and how that choice can improve your product presentation and bottom line.
What Is a Third-Party Bottle Decorator?
A third-party bottle decorator is a specialized company that provides decoration services such as shrink sleeving, screen printing, and pressure-sensitive labeling. They work with brand owners, manufacturers, and contract packagers to apply high-quality graphics and finishes to bottles, jars, and containers.
At Eastgate Group, we handle decoration for a wide variety of industries—including beauty, personal care, beverage, nutraceutical, chemical and household goods—helping brands transform plain containers into finished, shelf-ready products.
When It Makes Sense to Outsource Bottle Decoration
Outsourcing your bottle decoration is often the smarter choice when you face any of the following situations:
1. You’re Launching a New Product or Brand
Setting up in-house decoration equipment for a new product line requires large upfront costs, long lead times, and specialized expertise. A third-party decorator like Eastgate Group can help you get to market faster and more affordably.
You can send your bottles directly to us for decorating, allowing you to focus on sales, branding, formulation, and distribution rather than equipment and staffing.
2. You Don’t Have the Volume to Justify In-House Equipment
If your production runs are small to medium-sized or seasonal, the cost of maintaining in-house equipment often outweighs the benefits.
A third-party decorator lets you pay per project instead of investing in expensive machinery, operators, and maintenance.
3. You Need High-End Decoration or Complex Finishes
Techniques such as silkscreen printing, special varnishes, custom bottles, and shrink sleeves with full 360° coverage require precision and experience. Third-party decorators specialize in these methods, ensuring consistent quality and registration accuracy across every unit.
4. You Want to Avoid Bottlenecks in Production
Decorating bottles in-house can slow down your filling and packaging lines. Outsourcing allows you to separate decoration from production, reducing downtime and keeping your operations efficient.
Eastgate Group provides turnkey decorating services that seamlessly integrate with your supply chain—so your containers arrive fully finished and ready to fill.
5. You Need Flexibility for Multiple SKUs or Short Runs
If you have frequent design changes or many product variants, outsourcing makes it easy to adapt. A third-party decorator can run multiple SKUs efficiently, with minimal setup time and no need to retool in-house systems.
6. You’re Focused on Cost Control and Quality Assurance
Buying, operating, and maintaining labeling or printing equipment can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars—not to mention training, materials, and quality control.
By partnering with a bottle decorator, you shift those costs and risks to experienced professionals who already have the infrastructure in place.
Advantages of Working with a Third-Party Bottle Decorator Like Eastgate Group
Partnering with an experienced bottle decorator provides both strategic and operational benefits:
Access to multiple decoration technologies (shrink sleeves, pressure-sensitive labels, silkscreen printing, and more)
Consistent, high-quality finishes that meet retail and brand standards
Scalable production capacity for both small runs and high-volume orders
Technical expertise in materials, container compatibility, and print registration
Reduced overhead costs and faster speed to market
At Eastgate Group, we operate with specialized equipment and a quality-first process to ensure your containers look perfect from the first bottle to the last.
When In-House Decoration Might Make Sense
There are cases where in-house decoration can work—typically for very large manufacturers with high, consistent volumes and long production runs. If your brand decorates tens of millions of identical units each year, the investment in specialized machinery could eventually pay off.
However, for most small to mid-sized brands, outsourcing is the more efficient and cost-effective approach — especially when visual quality and flexibility are top priorities.
